PUPPIES
When
all goes well having a litter of puppies is one of the nicest things
there is. Fortunately everything usually goes well with the Wybar
mothers and their infants but a few days before the puppies are due I
always get that sinking feeling; “what have I got us into”.
Once
the puppies have come safely into the world, their mother is doing well
and her babies are growing away we start to enjoy it all intensely.
The
nursery is always in the same corner of the living room and that means
we can frequently take a look in the whelping box. Later there and
outside on the patio we have puppy pens where the puppies can play as
much as they like or retire to their mini-bench for a snooze.
When
they are a little older we have the puppy-hour in the living room after
the older dogs are in bed. The pups can then explore the world outside
their puppy pen, run and play and investigate strange new objects.
It just gets better and
better when they can have even more freedom in the garden and play with
the older dogs too.
Of
course when the pups are born in the winter the weather can put the
chill on some of these activities but a spring litter is real fun.
